HM Notes
Simple. Clear. Efficient.
What HM Notes Is and Why I Created It
Huge books can overwhelm students. Just the thought of reading and understanding every page adds more stress to an already stressful phase of life. Even though textbooks contain valuable information, many students struggle to make use of it. They feel lost, spend too much time on less important parts, and this inefficient use of time eventually affects their performance in the exam.
To solve this, I began preparing chapter-wise notes that were crisp, to the point, and easy to revise. Students liked them because they finally had something simple and manageable to study from. Later, I combined all these notes into a structured book.
Each chapter in HM Notes is presented in a question–answer format to make exam preparation easier. All questions from twelve previous years’ papers are included and arranged in a natural concept flow for smooth learning. Each question is also marked with a star rating (* to ****), indicating its level of importance. You can read more about how to use this rating system in the “How to Use HM Notes” section.
The first edition was published for my college students in 2018 and again in 2019 — and it became a huge success. During the pandemic, printing and distributing books became difficult, so I decided to make HM Notes freely available online. Since then, thousands of students have used it. I continue to explore ways to support students — including making educational videos — and I plan to update HM Notes with the latest syllabus and question papers soon.
How to Use HM Notes
When exams are near, time becomes limited and the syllabus can feel vast. To study efficiently, it helps to know which questions carry more weight in the exam.
HM Notes categorizes every question into four importance levels. The more stars a question has, the higher its probability of appearing in the exam.
Question Type | Symbol |
Very High Importance | **** |
High Importance | *** |
Medium Importance | ** |
Low Importance | * |
- Understand all concepts first — read through all questions to get a clear idea of the chapter.
- Prioritise your practice — start with questions that have the highest number of stars and move to questions with fewer stars based on the time available.
Disclaimer
HM Notes was originally published in 2018–19. Since then, a few topics have been removed from the PU board syllabus. Because of this, some questions in the notes may no longer be part of the current syllabus.
Students are advised to check the latest reduced syllabus to know which topics have been excluded, so they can use their time efficiently and focus on relevant areas.
I plan to update HM Notes with the latest syllabus and question papers soon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is HM Notes suitable for all types of students?
A. Yes. HM Notes is designed for every student who wants to use their time efficiently and study in a structured way. It is especially helpful for:
Students who feel overwhelmed by large textbooks
Students who want to know which topics carry more weight
Those who are short on time before exams
Students aiming to improve their scores by focusing smartly
High scorers who want quick, effective revision
Struggling students who need a clear, manageable starting point
HM Notes does not replace understanding — it helps you study smarter, revise faster, and approach the exam with confidence.
Q. Is HM Notes enough? Do I still need to read NCERT or other reference books?
A. Learning has no limit — the more you read, the better you understand.
I always encourage students to read the NCERT textbook, explore good reference books, and watch well-made videos to strengthen their concepts and curiosity.
However, the practical problem is lack of time, especially before exams.HM Notes helps you focus on the most relevant and high-probability questions first, so you can study smartly, not endlessly.
Q. If I study HM Notes completely, is it guaranteed that I will score well in the board exam?
A. HM Notes greatly improves your chances because board exam questions tend to repeat in pattern and style. The book helps you identify frequently asked and high-weightage questions.
But scoring well ultimately depends on:
-
how well you understand the concepts
-
how accurately you remember and write answers
-
how confidently you handle the question paper on exam day
Memorising without understanding can still lead to mistakes, even if the questions are familiar. Understanding + practice is the key.
Q. Can I score 90+ just by using HM Notes?
A. Yes — even students who scored in the high 90s and full marks have told me HM Notes helped them revise quickly and stay focused.
But scoring 90+ always depends on clarity, consistency, and performance on the exam day. It is important to give most of the credit to their hard work and dedication — no book or teacher can replace consistent effort.
Q. Is HM Notes helpful for competitive exams like KCET or NEET (Physics)?
A. Indirectly, yes. HM Notes helps you build strong PUC fundamentals, which are essential for competitive exams.
However, KCET/NEET require:
additional practice books
higher problem-solving speed
deeper conceptual understanding
Many competitive exam candidates still find board exams challenging because board exams are mainly descriptive. HM Notes simplifies board exam preparation so students can devote more time to their competitive exam practice.
