In most classrooms, students learn at different speeds and have different levels of understanding. Those who learn quickly often feel unchallenged, while those who need more time feel rushed. Curious students have deep questions that remain unanswered, and students with conceptual gaps fall further behind because there isn’t enough time to address individual doubts. As a result, many students underperform — not due to lack of ability, but due to lack of individual attention.

When this happens, students are often blamed for lack of interest, low marks, or difficulty understanding concepts. In reality, these struggles usually stem not receiving timely support, being forced to learn at the pace of a large group, or being taught in a way that does not match their learning style. Over time, confidence drops and learning becomes stressful.

Beyond academics, this phase of life is psychologically demanding. Students need understanding, not pressure. Competition, expectations, peer influence, family expectations, societal pressure, and worry about the future can be overwhelming at their age. A teacher who understands these challenges and interacts with students regularly and empathetically can support them far beyond academics. Sometimes, what a student needs most is reassurance, guidance, and someone who believes in their ability to learn.
